Could Pete Orr make the Phillies' post season roster as a pinch runner?

"Bookmark

I have to be honest, Pete Orr does not impress me much as a major league player. Pete Orr

Orr has been back and forth between triple-A Lehigh Valley and the big club this year, and is only with the club at the moment because of the injuries to Chase Utley and Jimmy Rollins.

However, in between striking out three times and busting it towards first base against Milwaukee and colliding into Rollins Monday night against the Astros, I have to give Orr credit- He’s all about hustle, which comes in handy when your 32 years old and still have to fight regularly for a roster spot in the big leagues. Make no mistake however, this isn’t the Dave Hollins kind of hustle that compensates for lack of speed, the guy is legitimately fast!

Which brings me to my next question:

Would the Phillies, who specialize in almost everything except team speed, consider adding Orr to the post season roster as a pinch runner?

I know it sounds crazy, but exactly how confident are you in anyone coming off the Phightins bench to motor home with a game-winning run in the playoffs? The next option would be Domonic Brown, and there has been no indication that he will return to the Phillies in the next two weeks. Remember when Charlie had to use Cliff Lee  as a pinch runner in Game 2 of the ‘09 NLDS against Colorado because Eric Bruntlett was already used? Exactly.

Odds are the Phils will keep Ben Francisco, someone with average speed who has a better chance (?) of actually hitting a home run than end up making Orr this generation’s Herb Washington, but it’s something to think about.
