NFL Power Rankings Week 1: Where do the Philadelphia Eagles Rank?

"Bookmark

Hi everyone,

It's great to be back with you once again. As usual I will be scribing ‘The Morning After’ every week following each and every Eagles game. For those not familiar with the TMA, it's my tongue-in-cheek look back at each Birds game. It's a whole lot of fun so be on the lookout for the first TMA this Monday following the Eagles/Rams game.

I will also be bringing you my weekly rankings - at least my Top 10, each and every week. I only do the Top 10 because let's face it, who really cares about the rest of the teams?

So today, I give you my first Top 10 NFL Rankings PLUS as an added bonus, my predictions for the forthcoming NFL season.

By all means, tell me I'm an idiot, tell me you love my picks or something altogether different. But tell me something... Bring something to the table and tell me your thoughts.

Ok, first things first. My first Top 10 NFL Rankings for the 2011-12 season.

1. Packers - "To be the man, you have to beat the man." - Ric Flair Ric Flair
2. Steelers -  Ditto... at least from the AFC perspective
3. Patriots - The Patriots offense will be, well the Patriots offense. It's how their young defense plays is the key.
4. Ravens - I know the defense is getting old but they are still damn good and with Lee Evans opening things up for Anquan Boldin, watch out.
5. Eagles - More on them later and you know what you can do with all that "Dream Team" crap...
6. Chargers - Philip Rivers for league MVP... remember where you heard it first
7. Saints - Is it me or does Drew Brees look insanely motivated? Of course playing for a new contract will do that to a person.
8. Jets - You can't argue with their success. Adding Plaxico Burress was a great move and something the G-Men will regret not doing themselves.
9. Falcons - Julio Jones and Roddy White may put up record-setting numbers this year.
10. Texans - They have to live up to expectations one of these years, don't they?

So that's my Top 10 NFL Rankings heading into Week 1.
As for my overall NFL picks for this coming year. They look like this:

NFC Division Winners: Eagles, Packers, Saints, Cardinals
NFC Wild Cards: Falcons, Lions
NFC Champ: Eagles

AFC Division Winners: Patriots, Steelers, Texans, Chargers
AFC Wild Cards: Ravens, Jets
AFC Champ: Ravens

Super Bowl Champ: Philadelphia EaglesAndy Reid Winning

I know, I know... but spare me the "he's just a homer" crap. I am picking the Eagles to win the Super Bowl based on how I see the season playing out. There is no doubt in my mind that this team will experience growing pains... a lot of them, especially over the first 4-5 weeks of the season. There simply was not enough time for them to create any sort of chemistry in the shortened off-season and pre-season.

But... But I think Andy Reid, as is his norm, will get the Eagles righted come December and if all key players stay healthy - I know that's a big caveat, the Eagles will get on a Packers-esque roll that will carry them right into the waiting arms of the Lombardi Trophy.
