Andy Reid to be dismissed; Eagles embarrassed by Giants: The Morning After

"Bookmark

For the final time this year...

Good morning campers,

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and I want to wish everyone a safe, happy and prosperous 2013.

Obviously the Eagles’ season is ending a lot sooner than many predicted it would - if memory serves me I had the Birds going 9-7/10-6 this year and out of the playoffs. But surely no one could have foreseen the abomination of a season that was to come. steve olenski

Sure, the national experts and pundits forecast (again) great things for the Eagles, often time remarking on "all the talent on the Eagles' roster" as a main reason for their collective optimism. Oh, that and the fact that the Eagles won their final four games of the previous season so clearly momentum was on their side, right?

Of course, true Eagles fans knew better. But even diehards could not have seen, as previously mentioned, the absolute train wreck that was heading down the tracks.

It was incredibly fitting the way yesterday's game played out and served as the perfect microcosm for the entire year.

The onsides kick to start the game represented the Eagles 3-1 start to the season. It was of course a mirage, just as the good feeling we all got from recovering the onside kick was for just a few plays after the kick, Michael Vick was, well... Michael Vick.

A poorly thrown pass off his back foot turned into an interception, which led to the Giants first TD. Essentially, the rest of the game was symbolic of the Eagles season starting with game 5, led by a simply horrific defense and a deplorable offensive line.

Oh, and very suspect play calling mixed in for flavor.

You saw the stats. The Giants had scored a grand total of 2 touchdowns in their previous two games, combined.

They scored 3 TDs against the Eagles... in the 1st Quarter.

And hey how bout the folks - the local sports talk show hosts chief among them, who predicted great things for the Eagles yesterday, especially Michael Vick?

Good Lord, caller after caller and host after host seemingly saw the Eagles and Vick having their way with the Giants. As if the Giants were already dead and buried and the Eagles and Vick had something to prove.

Well in that regard they were correct insomuch as the Eagles and Vick did prove something.

They proved they are just not very good.

They proved they do not play hard for their defacto coach, despite what they continually spew out to any media member with a Bic and a pad of paper.

They proved they simply do not care. For if they did, how then would they explain such a dreadful performance?

Oh yeah, they ain't very good to start with. I forgot.

By now, you are all aware that Andy Reid  will be officially "relieved of his duties" sometime Monday (the politically correct way of saying he was fired).Photo: SI

The happy part is self-explanatory.

As for the sadness, well that will come from knowing that yet another coach has come and gone in our Eagles world and we are still bereft of a certain silver trophy with a football on top. As tantalizingly close as Big Red got us, he could not "do a better job." I am one to give the man his props, for he took a pathetic and wretched team and put them on the national stage and made the Philadelphia Eagles relevant.

So for that I am grateful.

But of course, the time has come to say farewell, Andy. You had your chance and then some.

So thanks for the memories and don't go away angry... just go away.

In closing, I gathered some of my P2P boys and of course MQ to get their grades on the 2012-13 Philadelphia Eagles.

Enjoy and see you next year...
