Flyers go up 2-0 on Penguins in classic playoff thriller!

Going into Game 1 of the Flyers’ playoff series against the hated Pittsburgh Penguins, I would have gladly settled for a split as the series shifted to Philadelphia for Game 3. Claude Giroux photo by Gregory Shamus/NHLI via Getty Images

However, Claude Giroux and Sean Couturier had other plans. In a game that will be immediately considered an all-time Flyers classic, Giroux and Couturier both had hat tricks, leading the orange and black to an 8-5 win over the Penguins and taking a 2-0 series lead. In addition to his three goals, Couturier completely shut down Evgeni Malkin, who is arguably the MVP of the league!

Now remember, Pittsburgh isn’t favored to win the Stanley Cup for nothing, so they still can’t be taken lightly. Back in 2000, the Flyers were down 0-2 to the Pens in the second round of the playoffs and they came back to win four straight.

This game had more ups and downs than a seesaw, so we’re going to turn it over to Rob from Orange Update/ Buzz on Broad to give you the full details.

Rob hit this one out of the park, and you can read it HERE!
