With Carter-Williams, Sixers fans should finally be optimistic about franchise

We’re just a little over a month into the 2013-2014 NBA season, and Philadelphia 76ers fans are probably looking a little differently at this Sixers team as last June’s draft nights moves are unfolding.Photo: photos.syracuse.com

It seems Sixers’ management may have found a gem in Michael Carter-Williams. We knew the kid was good, but he’s turning out to be a complete stud (Stephen A. Smith voice). Carter-Williams is consistently showing that he’s no fluke and that his game is indeed legit.

The young point guard consistently averages double digits in points and most nights double digits in assists. He may not be as good as a defender as Jrue Holiday, but his long wingspan and lanky frame make up for it. Carter-Williams is quickly making Holiday an afterthought and in the process making the Sixers’ front office look very smart and knowledgeable than previous expected. At first glance, it seems the Sixers will get the best of last June's draft night trade with the New Orleans Pelicans by far.

Not only did the team get a legit future All-Star point guard in Carter-Williams, they still have a more talented Samuel Dalembert in Nerlens Noel waiting in the wings while he recovers from knee surgery. Moreover, the team (depending on how the Pelicans finish) could have two possible first-round draft picks in next year's highly touted NBA Draft, which is turning out to be promising. In other words, the Sixers (depending on how they finish this season) could be in a position to get their hands on a range of good players if their picks land between 1-20 in the draft.

While nobody knows what future picks could bring, it already looks like the Philadelphia 76ers are going to have a very bright future.

And a lot of that has to do with their new point guard.
